Onion Patch Series

Newport News

The first day of windward/leewards unfortunately didn't see anything like the 18 knot sea breeze that so blessed the Around The Island fleet on the Friday of the 158th NYYC Annual Regatta, with the 150-odd entries sailing on three courses in 5-8 knots of shifty, patchy breeze.

I'm getting to know "Decision" well, the new Carkeek 40 designed specifically to the HPR Rule, and I think I love this boat just as much as I dislike handicap racing around the buoys in light air. I won't give you excuses for our fifth place finish in the only race yesterday – other than the most obvious one: I'm trimming...

I'll have a complete report on our Annual Regatta on Monday morning as I prepare for our assault on the Bermuda Race in a 40 foot sportboat next weekened. Gorgeous photo work from the windy Friday race from our friends Allen and Daniela at Photoboat.com.
